MUNDAKA SURF RESERVE

Mundaka’s world class surfbreak located in the Basque Country, Spain, was seriously threatened and about to disappear because of human intervention.

In partnership with the local community, we took action to stop the threads. We began our conservation process and in 2015 it was declared as a Surf Reserve by the local authorities. They took into consideration the singularities of the wave and its natural heritage. In Novembre 2016, we finally found legal protection of Mundaka by public bodies. Mundaka became the 1st legally protected world class surf-break in Europe.
