Roberto Martín González is a specialist researcher in sports tourism, currently working at the geography department of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Malaga (UMA), where he carries out his PHD studies in tourism.

Diploma in tourism, Master in Tourism Management and Planning, and Master in electronic tourism from the UMA. His Master’s Thesis related to the digital transformation of the surf tourism has been awarded with distinctions as the best TFM by the Interuniversity Network of Postgraduate Studies in Tourism (RedIntur).

Several of his works have been published in scientific magazines and publications, both nationally and internationally.

He has participated in the elaboration of the sustainable tourism development plan for the Axarquía region (eastern Malaga).

He obtained a grant from the European Union for international cooperation with South African university institutions (EUROSA Program belonging to the Erasmus Mundus + program) and the preparation of his thesis, which led him to South Africa to study the phenomenon of surf tourism and the digital transformation in Capetown. There, he entered into close collaboration with Ms Kamilla Swart, an international specialist in sports and event tourism, with whom she carried out numerous projects related to sports tourism in South Africa (in collaboration with local, regional and / or national institutions) and at the international level within the framework of the Carnival project to study the impacts of sporting events financed by the European Union.

His passion for the sea, surfing and his relationship with tourism began in Marbella, where his family has managed for more than twenty years a restaurant by the beach. He is passionate about hollow and powerful waves.
