Inside a Wave: A Meeting of Surfing, Photography, and Ocean Literacy

On January 22nd at 7 pm, join us at the Botín Centre for the event “Inside a Wave: A Meeting of Surfing, Photography, and Ocean Literacy.”

From a unique space overlooking Santander Bay, art and ocean science will converge to invite you to listen to surfing stories and join the discussion on the disappearance of iconic waves and the urgent need to protect our amazing coastal ecosystems.

This event takes place within the framework of the exhibition “Cooking Sections: Waves Lost at Sea”, which, from an artistic perspective, explores how human activity is destroying legendary surf breaks and cultural landscapes linked to surfing.

The exhibition will feature presentations by several surfers offering diverse perspectives. Dr Juanjo González Trueba, founder and director of the Surf & Nature Alliance and an international leader in the defense of surf breaks as natural and cultural heritage, and Antonio Bretones, collaborating photographer and member of the Alliance, whose work has helped to narrate the connection between waves, people, and land, will be two of the highlights.

We thank all the people and organizations that have made this initiative possible, from the team at the Botín Centre to the Cooking Sections collective. But above all, we thank everyone who supports the Surf and Nature Alliance so that, through science, art, education, and activism, we can work to ensure that lost waves become protected waves.
