Four breakwaters in El Sardinero beach and a few endangered waves

Christmas carols, new coastal overdevelopment projects, littering and spills threatening waves and coastal ecosystems around the world.

The past few days we could sadly find some good examples can next to our own headquarters in Spain. Construction projects such as the one featured here in El Sardinero beach, Santander, or the recently projected breakwater wall on La Concha beach next to the Suances Surf Reserve in Cantabria, do not include the surfing factor in their coastal planning. Marine pollution, and brine spills projects such as the one planned in La Santa and El Quemao breakers in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, are also real threats that we must face.

Surf & Nature Alliance’s team wish you all the best for 2023.

Help preserve the well-known and less-known surf zones. This part of the natural and cultural heritage is a strategic resource for local communities and the generations to come.

Join our crew to protect the ocean and the waves we love.
