Stand for a new Coastal Marine Protected Area of Multiple Uses in O’Higgins

The challenge of a new Coastal Marine Protected Area of Multiple Uses in O’Higgins, Chile.

One year after establishing the first Chilean Surf Reserve in Pichilemu, framed within the National Program for the Protection of the Surfbreaks of Chile that Surf & Nature Alliance started in 2016, and also  after obtaining the ratification of our Manifesto for the Protection of the Waves by the Municipality of Pichilemu, the Regional Government of O’Higgins has initiated the Citizen Consultation Process of the Draft of the Zoning of the Coastal Border of the Sixth Region. An instrument of planning and territorial ordering, which involves the 4 coastal communes (#Navidad, #Litueche, #Pichilemu and #Paredones). Its objective is to plan and manage maritime coastal spaces, through guidelines through a zoning of preferred uses and respective compatibility criteria.

An excellent opportunity for surfers, artisanal fishermen, ocean lovers, and the Chilean community in general, to promote the creation of a Coastal Marine Protected Area of Multiple Uses that provides legal protection to this incredible coastal edge, its amazing surfbreaks and marine environment.
